European Advisory Board

To complement the work of our investment teams, Bridgepoint has an Advisory Board drawn from both private and the public sectors to provide insight, guidance and an external perspective on all our activities.

Bridgepoint and its investee companies are constantly seeking ways to develop. Bridgepoint’s Advisory Board brings a broader external perspective to our firm, the companies we back and over 40,000 people they employ.

The Advisory Board currently comprises:

  • Sir James Crosby was Chief Executive of HBOS plc till 2006, is a fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries, a non-executive director of Misys plc, a senior independent director of Compass Group plc, a Trustee of Cancer Research (UK) and a Member of the Finance Committee of the Delegacy of Oxford University Press.
  • Dr Hubertus Erlen is Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bayer Pharma AG, where he worked for over 30 years, culminating in his appointment as Chief Executive Officer from 2001 until 2006. He is also is a member of the Supervisory Boards of Celesio AG and the Central Advisory Board of Commerzbank AG.
  • Francis Mer is a former Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industry in France and has been a leading figure in the European steel industry, most recently as chairman of steel groups Usinor and Arcelor.
  • Alan Milburn chairs the European Advisory Committee. He has served in the UK government as Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Secretary of State for Health and as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. He was Labour Member of Parliament for Darlington from 1992 to 2010. He also serves on the Healthcare Advisory Panel of Lloydspharmacy Limited.
  • Lord Patten is a former Commissioner in charge of External Relations at the European Commission, former Governor of Hong Kong and is Chancellor of Oxford University.
  • Sir Stuart Rose, formerly Chief Executive of Marks & Spencer and currently its Chairman, is a non-executive director of Land Securities plc and Chairman of Business in the Community. Before re-joining Marks & Spencer as Chief Executive in 2004, Sir Stuart was Chief Executive of Arcadia Group plc, Argos plc and Booker plc.  He was knighted in 2008 for services to the retail industry and corporate social responsibility.
